KRISTINE LANIER
CMHC
DBT, Play Therapy
Finding relief can be a difficult journey especially when life throws unexpected hardships. I have been working with people of all ages to help find that relief. We use talk or experiential therapy. We work together to find ways to overcome the difficulties and discover what has been holding them from this relief.

TREATMENT APPROACH
Client center therapy is my go to approach as I strongly believe the client is the driver of the therapy sessions, and I hold different maps to help us figure out where to go.

KNOW YOUR THERAPIST
WHAT DID YOU GET YOUR DEGREE(S) IN AND WHERE FROM?
Elementary Education, Brigham Young University and Clinical Mental Health Counseling, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL HISTORY
4th and 6th grade teacher for 4 years, in-home and office therapist at Hopeful Beginnings for almost 4 years, therapist at BlueTheory Counseling (private practice) for 1 1⁄2 years, St. John the Baptist Middle School part-time counselor for 2 years, and Family Solutions Counseling therapist since 2022
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A THERAPIST?
I’ve always been drawn to those who need help and support. What kept bothering me over and over again was not being able to help when friends or family members needed it. Now I love seeing the growth in individuals and families now that they have the tools and skills to get them where they want to go. In the meantime, finding myself growing and healing in ways I couldn’t imagine from my own work and the inspiration of clients and coworkers makes me want to stay and learn even more
WHAT HAS SHAPED YOUR THERAPEUTIC APPROACH?
Every person is different. I have noticed that one size doesn't fit all, so I love to explore and discover with my clients their needs and which approach best suits them.
WHAT KIND OF HOMEWORK OR ASSIGNMENTS DO YOU GIVE CLIENTS?
I lean towards homework using cognitive work such as a gratitude journal or finding what you did well that day. Yet homework is based on what we discover and decide together.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY FIRST SESSION WITH YOU?
To prepare for a first session, it would be helpful to be vulnerable and honest even if that means you don’t feel like a homework assignment or an assessment fits. You know yourself better than I do.
